Captain Tony Knox, Retired, dedicated 33 years of service to the Des Moines Police Department, leaving behind a legacy as a decorated agent. Throughout his illustrious career, Knox held a multitude of commanding positions, showcasing his expertise across various divisions. Notably, he served within the Division of Criminal Investigations, the Sex Abuse Unit, and the Identification Section, where he specialized in forensic investigations of homicides. Additionally, Knox served as a Narcotics Community Liaison, demonstrating his commitment to community engagement and safety.
In leadership roles, Knox excelled as the Chief of Police’s Executive Officer and as the Commander of the Police Academy. In the twilight of his career, he undertook the responsibility of leading the Office of Professional Standards, overseeing Internal Investigations with diligence and integrity.
Captain Knox's dedication to professional development is evident through his attendance at numerous trainings and seminars, particularly those focused on criminal investigations and interviewing techniques, including courses conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
A native of Marshalltown, IA, Captain Knox's roots run deep within the state, reflecting his unwavering commitment to serving and protecting his community.
John W. Elkin, presently the Superintendent of the Center Point-Urbana CSD (IA), boasts nearly three decades of experience in education, encompassing teaching, coaching, and various leadership roles at both secondary and district levels. Hailing from a lineage of educators, Elkin was born and raised in Bettendorf, IA.
Elkin dedicated almost a decade of his career to secondary education as an English teacher and coach. Throughout this period, he made significant contributions both on the athletic field and in the fine arts arena, showcasing his multifaceted talents and commitment to nurturing students' holistic development.
Elkin embarked on his journey as a school administrator in 2004, commencing with a decade-long tenure as both the high school assistant and subsequently head principal in Webster City, IA. Following this, he assumed the role of middle school principal in Carlisle, IA, where he served for seven years before transitioning to Assistant Superintendent for Center Point-Urbana from 2021-23.
Throughout his tenure as a school official, Elkin has conducted numerous investigations into matters such as harassment, discrimination, safety, Title IX compliance, and employee misconduct. Additionally, he has served as the Title IX, EEO/AA, and Disability Rights coordinator, showcasing proficiency in collaborating with third-party investigators.
